Who we are? We’re not another charity. We’re not an institution. We Are What We Do is a movement. We’d like to inspire people to use their everyday actions to change the world. Whoever they are. And wherever they are. And that includes you. We’ve created 50 simple, everyday actions that can improve our environment, our health, and our communities, making our planet and the people on it much happier. We started by putting these actions in a book, but the whole movement is getting bigger. And bigger. Where did the idea originate? We Are What We Do began life as a project of the charity Community Links. Community Links is an innovative inner city charity running community-based projects in east London. Founded by local volunteers , the charity now helps over 50,000 vulnerable children, young people and adults every year. Most of its work is delivered in Newham, one of the poorest boroughs in Europe, whilst Links UK shares the local experience with practitioners and policy makers nationwide through an extensive training, consultancy and publications programme.. For more information www.community-links.org How are we funded? We Are What We Do is currently funded by proceeds from the sale of the book – Change the World for a Fiver. The small team of six works out of the offices of the Brunswick Group in London and we are extremely grateful to Brunswick for providing us with this space free of charge. In addition to salaries, proceeds from the sale of Change the World for a Fiver have been used to develop and maintain our website, create and manage our education programme, and seed fund foreign editions of Change the World for a Fiver. We aim to continue to work with partners on a pro bono basis to develop new We Are What We Do products and initiatives which are modestly priced (and therefore accessible to as many people as possible) but which make a modest surplus which can then be used to develop and sustain the movement around the world. Who makes it happen? You do. Everyone does. There are hundreds of people all around the world taking part in working We Are What We Do projects – on our book, our films, our exhibition and our website, not to mention all the people carrying out our actions and helping to spread the word. The amazing thing is that pretty much everyone’s doing it for nothing – well not for money that is. We’re all doing it for the biggest prize there is. The happy knowledge that we are all doing our bit. And our bit counts because others are doing their bit too. So that’s us. Thanks for visiting our site. Thanks for signing up to do our actions (and not just once, but everyday), thanks for joining in, telling others and spreading the word. Who are we? We Are What We Do. |
