We Are What We Do unleashes their new recycling beast at Bestival

We Are What We Do, the social movement behind the I’m not a Plastic Bag shopper, Action Stationery and Historypin, will unleash their latest creation onto Bestival this summer: Jacques le Trash, a 12 meter long, pink dragon with a dodgy French accent and a penchant for eating rubbish.

Part monster, part foodie snob, he will be roaming the festival munching his way through festival-goers waste, filling his three bellies with paper plates, plastic cups and tin cans.

He’s also got a place for you to stick your used cigarette butts too, best left to the imagination.

And as a sign of his appreciation he will be leaving his bitemark on anyone that feeds him their trash.

Neither We Are What We Do nor Bestival are responsible for any limbs lost.

Kate Jackman, Bestival’s Environmental Manager commented, “Bestival was a very proud recipient of an ‘Outstanding’ Greener Festival Award in 2009 and we’re keen to keep improving our green standards year upon year. When We Are What We Do told us about Jacques we couldn’t wait to get him his festival wristband and set him loose among the crowd – anything that encourages recycling is a welcome addition to our eco conscious event!”

Developed together with experiential agency Live Union, the recycling creature exemplifies We Are What We Do’s core belief in facilitating behaviour change in simple, engaging ways and marks their foray into live experiences.

Nick Stanhope, CEO of We Are What We Do commented, “We wanted bring the bins to the people rather than expecting people to go to the bins, and to make the process of recycling part of the festival experience — to be talked about, photographed and enjoyed.”
